Our connection with Wesley Mission Queensland began in 2019 with a visit to Hummingbird House, Queensland’s only children’s hospice.
It’s difficult to describe what it feels like to witness families navigating the unimaginable with courage and love. What stayed with us was the compassion and quiet strength of the staff who show up every single day.
That visit changed us.
Since then, we’ve donated annually at Christmas, a tradition that remains deeply important to our team.
In 2024, our involvement deepened. We supported the Red Bag Appeal by donating essential goods, collecting hampers and volunteering at gift wrapping stations in Chermside. What began as a seasonal gesture has grown into regular volunteering across Brisbane, including aged care events and hands-on support at the Brisbane Relief Hub.
These experiences have shaped a relationship grounded in shared values, compassion, dignity and action. We believe support should be practical, restore hope and remind people they are not alone.
The Brisbane Relief Hub provides essential support to individuals and families in crisis.
But behind every food hamper, medical check or prescription subsidy is a person doing their best to hold things together.
Demand has grown sharply in recent years. More families are turning to the Hub as a safe, welcoming space during times of uncertainty.
Some parents are skipping meals so their children can eat. Others are taking their kids out of school just to access a free lunch. For many, asking for help is already a difficult step.
The Hub meets these needs with care and respect. It offers more than food and services, it offers dignity.
But resources are stretched, and the need continues to grow.
We have committed to raising $2,000 each week to support the vital work of the Brisbane Relief Hub, with a clear and practical outcome in mind.
This consistent funding allows the Brisbane Relief Hub to double the number of food hampers available, helping more individuals and families access support when they need it most. It also means assistance can often be provided earlier, helping reduce stress and hardship before situations escalate.
We contribute each week, and many members of our team also choose to donate a portion of their salary. These quiet, ongoing contributions help ensure more people can access essential support, including food, medical assistance and connection to community care.
It means fewer parents going without meals so their children can eat. It helps create greater stability at home so children can stay engaged at school. And it ensures practical support is delivered with dignity, respect and compassion.
By committing to consistent weekly support, we help provide the Brisbane Relief Hub with greater certainty, allowing their team to plan ahead and support more people throughout the year.
This is a big goal, but it is a reachable one.
Just 40 people pledging $50 per week would help us get there. Small, consistent contributions create real impact over time. Recurring donations can be made through our fundraising page, linked directly to Wesley Mission Queensland. All donations are tax-deductible.
If you or your team would like to volunteer alongside us, we would love to hear from you. Every contribution, whether financial or practical, helps extend the reach of this essential service.
Because when a community shows up together, fewer people fall through the cracks.
Together, we can help more people, more often, with the support they need.
